The cover tells you before the first bar does. Palm trees, hills, late afternoon sun burning orange behind the BiG BiLLY crest. Hollywood Hills energy. “DOiNG MY THANG.” sounds exactly like that: a chill sesh, feel good record, done in under two minutes. Nihilist builds it on a warm, old-soul sample with soft keys and smooth bass rolling underneath.

It lands right after the opposite. A month ago Billy dropped BIG B$ & BENTLEY$, four tracks that each take a different lane. “B-ROLL” rides a moody guitar loop with the bass sitting low and heavy. “GET iT N GO” bounces bright and loud, and he speeds his flow up halfway through. “$UPER$iZED” is the raw one: blown-out bass, buzzing synths, yelling ad-libs, full rage. “2FLY” closes it out spacey and late-night. Then he follows all of that with an afternoon record and makes the switch sound natural. That’s the versatility.

On BIG B$ & BENTLEY$ you can hear the influences. That’s how an artist becomes himself before he branches off. “DOiNG MY THANG.” is where he branches off. That one is all him: his voice, his pace, unhurried and right in the pocket. This is a pivotal point for Billy, and you can hear it.

In rap, most of the beats you find online are surface level, whatever is popping right now, and a lot of artists end up stuck picking from that pile. Billy adapts to all of it. Put him in a studio with a producer who knows how to dig for the right sound, and he’s making bangers.

He’s a real hustler and he’s been putting in work. We’re going to keep pushing his music, because it keeps earning it.
